Pretty women wonder where my secret lies.
I'm not cute or built to suit a fashion model's size
But when I start to tell them,
They think I'm telling lies.
I say,
It's in the reach of my arms
The span of my hips,
The stride of my step,
The curl of my lips.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

I walk into a room
Just as cool as you please,
And to a man,
The fellows stand or
Fall down on their knees.
Then they swarm around me,
A hive of honey bees.
I say,
It's the fire in my eyes,
And the flash of my teeth,
The swing in my waist,
And the joy in my feet.

Men themselves have wondered
What they see in me.
They try so much
But they can't touch

Maya is one of the most brilliant poets ever. She is definitely one of my top favorites. This really makes you realize that as women we are phenomenal and that each of us has so very much that we add to this life merely by our presence. As i have grown older I no longer appear as I did 20 years ago and that's OK with me. Every day and every experience, every line on my face, every tear I have shed or great laugh that I have engaged in has made this sweet life just that much more sweeter. Every day is a gift, every family member, every friend, every contact I have made with all the people that have come and passed have made me who I am, stronger and better than the moment before. Always remember, you are a phenomenal woman!
